I remember sitting in a room once—12 people, all with titles that carried more weight than mine.
We were discussing a campaign. I had a different point of view. But I didn’t speak. I nodded. Took notes. And the meeting moved on.
Later, that exact blind spot I’d noticed showed up in the execution. And I kicked myself—not because they got it wrong, but because I stayed quiet.
I thought it was “too inappropriate” to interrupt or speak up when the idea was getting approved.
That’s why if I could say one thing, boldly, in a boardroom full of power—it would be—
“Be the comma. Pause the noise. Speak with intent.”
A comma isn’t just a pause for written sentences. Sometimes, it can bring in valuable inputs and change the course of a conversation. We are often too scared to interrupt and speak our minds in places where there are people more powerful than us. We are too scared to share our opinions in places where we don’t always feel safe, but the truth is –silence has rarely contributed to the greatest teamwork out there.
An interruption can mean Impatience. Impoliteness. Judgement. Or simply the Courage & #Authenticity to add value and show another point of view. #UnmuteYourself
