What inspires me the most? Pain. Perseverance to overcome pain to be more specific. As a child, I was an average Joe. I am still an average Joe. I did not have any specific dreams nor did I know what I will be when I grow-up.
And then; the intriguing part of life is – it changes. It changes with what one believes and what one experiences. This is what makes us who we are, what we are and what we will be in the future.
At one time I was in the hospital nursing my Mom back to health. She had cancer. She had asked for me to be by her side. There was another time when I signed a no claim declaration when a Doctor refused to allow me to take a flight and travel home. I was diagnosed with “an intestinal disorder” that I would make me throw-up anything and everything I ate, within seconds. Even water. With no nutrition my hemoglobin had dropped below 8 g/dL (Normal range for adults is 13.8 to 17.2 g/dL). Few years later, when I thought I had everything under control, I was made redundant from my job after being together for 17 years. The problem was not money but about losing one’s identity at work and in life.
Are these moments – the most difficult moments of my life. Indeed. I am humbled having survived these events and grateful and thankful to those who were there with me when I needed them the most. But then why do I feel enthralled by these so called adventures.
What made my Mom believe that she needed me next to her? 20 years later – we can’t agree more. Was it because I was the youngest or because I was all grown-up. I was in one of the best hospitals and being treated by one of the best Doctors in the country. What made me choose to risk my life? How does one rebuild their identity when one feels like they’ve lost everything they ever owned? Do you convince your mind or control your heart.
I am not expecting anyone to answer these questions but want to acknowledge those who have survived such situations. Thank you for your courage, your perseverance, your self-belief. Hope you are doing alright now !!!. Please DM if you need help. If you haven’t experienced such situations – I pray you don’t.
So what’s the take away. One might not been born intelligent but through one’s experiences and choices – one finds purpose. I did.
