After I completed my secondary school, I joined a hotel as a receptionist to help my family as well as to develop and prove my existence and accept the change in my life path for a better future.
At that time, it was an issue to accept an Omani woman working in a hotel; as the norm was for her to be a teacher or a nurse. Nevertheless, I took an unconventional step that’s not traditionally accepted but I was compelled to take the risk and try something new. I went to the city and started working in the hotel. I faced many challenges but I also learned many things: how to deal with different situations, different age groups, different nationalities, and even navigating my way in different languages. I learned and gained rich experiences in how to deal with various people challenges and shape solutions that pleases both parties.
I then pursued my education and moved to a better job in a bigger institution, and today, I am pursuing my PhD.
Nothing is impossible no matter how simple your life may be or how limited your resources were or the endless challenges you may face. I say fight for your dream and start from today, start with anything and try different things, and through the experience, you will find your purpose and passion.
For me, after that, I had many inspiring success stories, the most beautiful of which is the establishment of a new department and developing the capabilities of others through team work as a leader as opposed to being bossy. I am pleased and content with what I have achieved and I believe my children can do a lot more and learn a lot faster with newer techniques, technologies and SMART thinking that’s available to them in abundance.
