Growing up as kid I never understood why I had to to go with my father to visit people I didn’t know. The conversation was never relevant to young kid of my age. Despite my misgivings it wasn’t my place to object or avoid the situation. There was little in the way of entertainment for a young kid of my age at the time. My contributions were not expected nor would have been entertained either.
However, within those endless social meetings therein lay an important lesson that a kid would learn many years later. Unbeknown to me at the time, those same people we had visited with my father at the time would become an important part of his memory after his passing. For the his friends became my elders, and their memories of his life became my memories.
More so, that young kid many years ago did not understand the lesson taught many years ago. #Compasion to your elders and cherishing those meaningful social #connections that bring us closer together. A lesson today I wish to pass to my kids as they grow up and to youth who strive to be better.
We may not understand why we do things that we do as we grow up. However, there is meaning in connecting with people that matter to our lives beyond material benefits. It is through these connections generations inter link and communicate better. It isn’t about one generation or the other, it is about how wisdom and experience is passed between them.
