“Kids are like a mirror, what they see and hear they do. Be a good reflection for them”
My 5 year old daughter apprehensively tried her luck asking for a blank sheet of paper yesterday. (Such requests have been outright rejected by her orthodox father in the past, worrying about so called paper waste). To her surprise without questioning too much, she got one sheet of A4 as I was busy with my office work. Few moments later, she came with folded hands pleading me with all her modesty to give her another blank sheet. I obliged her request merely to keep her away from me. After an hour, this time knowing I am engrossed in some serious work, she didn’t even bothered asking. She sneaked in, picked up one more paper and disappeared.
Later that evening, with all her joy and excitement she showed me her 3 attempt scribble – I got delighted at her sheer imagination. She had toiled making a paper shirt, sharply scissored and splashed with colors. Then she hesitated, but showed me other versions as well and innocently said, “Sorry dad for wasting some paper but every time I scribbled I realized that this isn’t something I wanted to create.”
Eureka!
That moment… quote flashed, got me nostalgic, emotional, inspired and determined all at the same time.
We all exhibit few behaviors without thinking – here it was perseverance, aiming for perfection and inner satisfaction. My little one conveyed and reflected back those behaviors. Realized that rather than looking out for external validations, looking inwards mindfully will give us long lasting inspirations. Consistency and commitment to better yourself is the key.
